About Re-Source York
OUR MISSION:
To advance environmental and social responsibility through the sale of used home goods and building materials while supporting job readiness and resources for our community.
Re-Source York, founded in 2002, is a nonprofit organization operating retail stores to sell donated building supplies and home furnishings to the public, providing jobs for people needing vocational support, and contributing financial support of emergency homeless services for York County families.
Our home improvement store – packed with everything from nuts, bolts and hinges to windows, doors, bathroom fixtures and full kitchen cabinet set-ups – is a first stop for anyone with a DIY or professional renovation project on the horizon.
Our home goods store is the place to shop when searching for home décor. You can find couches and chairs, dressers, desks, and tables, bed frames, dinnerware and glassware, and all sorts of tchotchkes, toys, wall art, books and games.
In addition to bringing significant savings to our greater York area family of customers, Re-Source York is committed to our long-standing partnership with Bell Socialization Services. Re-Source supports Bell in two ways: by making quarterly financial contributions that directly support Bell Family Shelter and by employing participants in Bell’s vocational rehabilitation program who are looking to restart their work lives in a supportive environment.
How Re-Source York Works
1
First, we accept donations of materials, furniture, supplies, appliances and more from the community, keeping reusable goods out of our landfills.
2
Then, our team cleans and sorts everything into two stores for resale – Home Improvement or Home Goods. The donated items are sold at a fraction of the cost of big box stores and makeup 97% of Re-Source York’s income. We help our customers discover a diamond in the rough turning discarded items into treasures.
3
Each month, a portion of sales from each location is set aside to donate to Bell Socialization Services, specifically designated to Bell Family Shelter, where it empowers York County families experiencing homelessness.
Meet the Team
Chris Carter
Executive Director
Chris oversees both Re-Source York stores and is responsible for sharing our mission with the community. Chris brings a wealth of retail experience to the team as well as a passion for helping others. When not at work, he loves to run, go to concerts with his wife, and go on hikes.
Cathy Lau
Store Manager, Home Furnishings
Cathy is responsible for all operations at the Carlisle Avenue location. She enjoys helping customers find treasures that make them smile and is a big part of the beautiful displays throughout the store. Cathy loves how friendly people are in York, and that it’s not too big or too small. She is admittedly an “open book” and when not at work likes to go to the beach, hiking, or canoeing.
April Moritz
Store Manager, Home Improvement
April, who has been with Re-Source York for 10 years and first joined the team as a volunteer, oversees the day-to-day operations of the 9th Avenue location. She loves the York community because how family-oriented it is as well as its small, hometown feeling. When not at work, April loves to spend time with her family including her grandchildren.
Kareen Stahle
Assistant Manager, Home Improvement
Kareen has been a fixture at the home improvement store for the last 8 years. Her favorite part about working for Re-Source York is learning new skills and being able to help customers with their projects by suggesting ideas and different materials. Some people may be surprised to learn she is a Star Wars and superheroes superfan and loves to create and build things herself.
Dalton Greenlee
Team Member, Home Improvement
Dalton has been with Re-Source York for more than a decade and is known for “getting things done.” From donation sorting to merchandising to customer service, Dalton does it all (in fact, he can’t stand still)! He loves living in York because of the sense of community, and how close it is to other cities.
Eric Grove
Team Member, Home Improvement
Eric is a positive, upbeat team member who loves helping customers at the Home Improvement store. He can be found doing inventory, stocking shelves, or helping customers in the showroom. He loves animals, so you may find him with PJ the Cat at times!
Gary Mechler
Donation & Delivery Team Member
Gary likes to help Re-Source York customers with their inspired ideas, whatever they may be. He also enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
Vicki Shaw
Home Improvement Team Member
Vicki can be found greeting customers and running the register. Fun fact: Vicki loves the Wizard of Oz so much that she made her own Yellow brick road in her backyard using Re-Source York pavers!
Pallet Jack (PJ)
Security, Home Improvement
PJ is new to the team and keeps the staff (and customers) entertained with his affinity for ribbon, paper balls, and aimlessly running around the 9th Avenue warehouse.
Brendan Markle
Home Furnishings Team Member
Brendan assists the team with moving items onto the sales floor and running the register. When he’s not taking classes at York College, he’s out playing guitar with his band.
Donovan Berger
Home Furnishings Team Member
Donovan likes to “pick things up and put them down”. He appreciates that Re-Source York has helped him to become more of a people person.
Board of Directors
Re-Source York is grateful for the dedication of the all-volunteer board of directors. Re-Source York board members are community leaders who are passionate about the organization’s mission and bring a wide variety of experience to the team.

FAQs
When do you accept donations?
Always during our open hours! Please make sure a team member is present to accept your item(s); we’re happy to help if we can!
How do you price your items?
Along with pricing guides, we use a sliding scale to price items depending on their quality, condition, age, and size. In general, most items in our stores are 30-50+% off of what you’d spend at a big box store.
Is your pick-up service free?
Yes, most items qualify for free pick-up. Your item(s) must first fit our criteria for resaleable donations. Before we schedule your pick-up, we’ll make sure to qualify your item(s), and a final determination will be made by the pick-up team.
How do I schedule a pick-up?
See our Donate page for more information.
Are you accepting volunteers?
Yes, all year long! Feel free to stop in or call to discuss with us what opportunities you’re looking for. Basic store maintenance all the way to small item repair are just a few of our regular needs. You can also learn more about volunteering here.
How can I learn more about your current stock?
Our inventory changes daily so the best way to find out what we have is to stop in our stores! We sometimes share neat items on our Facebook page. You’re always welcome to call our stores to ask, too! Although we may not be able to provide specific details & measurements on our products, we welcome you to our stores with further assistance and even a tape measure!
Do you purchase items/consign?
No, we do not. All items are accepted as donations.
