Team Member Spotlight: April Moritz

Meet April Moritz, the Store Manager whose positivity and dedication are central to Re-Source York’s success. April’s journey with us is a powerful story of growth, perseverance, and deep community connection.

April first joined Re-Source York in October 2010 as a volunteer at our former Carlisle Avenue location. At the time, she was pursuing her GED through the welfare-to-work program. Her drive and commitment quickly caught the attention of our executive director, who advocated for a brand-new position just for her so she could stay on while she continued her GED program. By early 2011, April’s hard work led her into a leadership role.

“I wanted to show my kids that you can do anything, which is how I ended up pursuing my GED at 33,” April shares. “And that decision led me to Re-Source York.”

In 2014, April became the manager at 9th Avenue, where she’s been the heartbeat of the store ever since, bringing energy, organization, and a creative touch to everything she does.

Ask April what she enjoys most, and her answer is immediate: the people and the variety. “Every day is different, and I’m always solving new challenges,” she says. She appreciates the regular customers who stop by to catch up, even when they’re just browsing, and she loves the puzzle of finding the right spot for every unique item. Some donations stand out, like the time the store received an 11-by-23-foot carpet that eventually found a second life in a local party barn.

What truly motivates April, though, is the chance to make a difference. She’s passionate about Re-Source York’s work with organizations like Bell Socialization Services and the Lincoln Intermediate Unit, helping people develop job skills and build confidence. “It’s not just a job; it’s a fulfilling mission. Knowing I’m part of something that helps others learn and grow makes every day worthwhile.”

April is also the unofficial “cat mom” to the store’s resident kitty, PJ (short for Pallet Jack!). While PJ is fairly self-sufficient, he never misses an opportunity for cuddles or mealtime. If you’ve visited the store, you’ve likely spotted him trailing close behind April or even hitched a ride on her shoulders as she works.

When she’s off the clock, April brings that same creativity to her hobbies – crafting playful fake food art, beading, and spending peaceful hours walking through local parks or cemeteries. On her travel wishlist: the rolling hills of Ireland or Scotland, drawn by the promise of open landscapes and serenity.

A lifelong York resident, April is the proud mom of three adult daughters and grandmother to four grandkids. She and her partner Mike, who first met at Re-Source York over a decade ago, share not only their life but also fond memories of working side by side. April and Mike are pet parents to Princess, a 6 year old American Bully.

April’s journey reflects her kind heart and spirit. We’re incredibly lucky to have her at the helm, inspiring our team and making a real impact on the York community every single day.
